Eng. Firas Abbas Hamza, Head of the Communications Division, who oversaw the project, said: "As a result of the great technological expertise of the engineering and technical staff working in the Communications Division, we have been assigned to design and implement the electronic systems of Al-'Ameed Medical University. And after conducting a study to the electronic systems inquired by the university, the electronic engineers specialized in the preparation of designs of modern electronic systems started their work to cover the current and future needs of the university. Thus, our engineers prepared modern designs of high flexibility to cover any future expansion of the university, whether in its buildings or in the number of its students. The systems are susceptible of modernization and development in the future, and are similar to or better than the systems used in other universities in Iraq."
Adding: "As stated before, 10 electronic systems have been designed, implemented and built, which are as follows:
1 - Data Center: We designed and built a sophisticated information center for the university containing all (servers) of the university's electronic systems, and energy support devices, and the monitoring systems are working around the clock.
2 - Infrastructure: The design and implementation of a very large infrastructure system using optical cable technology that connects the information center to the electronic rooms (Hub Rooms) deployed in 10 sites in the university, using about 50.000 meters of copper and optical wires to install this system.
Control Room: A security surveillance center was built and equipped with screens to display the footage of cameras, and training of technical staff to use these cameras, as well as providing a range of cameras of the Communications Division to manage this center.
4 - Video Management System: Hundreds of digital cameras (IP Cameras) were set up for security surveillance throughout the university in a way that meet the needs of the university.
Telephone System: It is a very modern digital telephone (IP PBX) in addition to the installation of dozens of modern IP phones of normal type and of video type (video calls), and connect this system with the telephone system of the al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine.
Intranet System: Due to the university's reliance on modern e-learning and the constant need to connect students with the professors electronically within the university boundaries and the need to connect with the servers and e-learning systems that were installed in the information center, a very large wired and wireless intranet system was installed, consisting of dozens of Access Points to enable to connect tablets and hundreds of Dual Keystone points to connect computers and phones in all university buildings.
7- Internet system: An integrated Internet system was built, consisting of modern servers to provide Internet service to professors and university students for educational purposes, including firewall protection systems and routers supported with blocking feature and electronic content management.
Finger Print System: For the purpose of facilitating the work of management of the administrative staff of the university, a modern system has been installed to register attendance and departure with a special server for the human resources unit at the university. This system works to record attendance and departure through FR technology or finger prints (FP) or radio cards (RF ID).
9 - Push to talk radio: The installation and programming of wireless communication devices for campus security personnel as well as the service and maintenance units in the university to facilitate the completion of various and multiple tasks at the university.
10 - Jamming system: These systems are installed in the examination halls and have the ability to prevent communication from mobile devices and Bluetooth headsets and other means of wireless communication during the examination period.
"The completion of this project has contributed to enhancing confidence in ourselves to build more complex systems in the future. And the accumulated expertise we have, can be placed at the disposal of all the holy shrines, ministries and state agencies to accomplish such systems with 100% Iraqi hands," concluded Firas.
