Quran Recitation Course Underway in Karbala

A specialized course on reciting the Quran in Iraqi and Egyptian styles is underway in the holy city of Karbala, Iraq.

The Quran recitation unit affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine has organized the course, titled "Sayyid al-Maa”.

More than 90 Quran learners have taken the course, which is hosted by the holy shrine every Thursday.

It includes teachings on different aspects and rules of Quran recitation in the Iraqi and Egyptian styles.

Alaeddin Hamoud and Sayyid Haydar Jilokhan al-Mousawi are the instructors of the course.

It is aimed at training top Qaris who have mastery over the rules and nuances of Quran recitation.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.

There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.

The Astans of Shia holy shrines in such cities as Karbala and Najaf have been particularly active in organizing Quranic programs.
