Engineering Maintenance Department began renewing and developing rain water drainage cannels at the outside Al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine.

Within the series of works set up by the staff of engineering maintenance department at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine, it has recently started renewing and developing the rain water drainage cannels surrounding the holy shrine of Aba Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him), by establishing new drainage cannels with higher capacity and with more consistent forms with the entrances of the shrine from the outside.

These works were preceded by a field survey to identify the weaknesses of the old canals and the places where water gathers especially where is difficult to drain the water, then a special design is made and the materials used in the manufacture of these channels are identified, and other technical and engineering matters related to these works.

The works have included opening new straight or round outlets according to the external shape of the road through which it passes, then they are wrapped by insulation and soft materials, inspection outlets were distributed with a level below water level to ensure the smooth flow, and they are all linked to the main system of water drainage of the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine. The works were divided into section to not interfere with the visitors’ movement and to not hinder their Ziyarat rituals.

It is worth mentioning that the engineering maintenance department at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine is a vital and effective department, as it includes many working divisions, units and workshops, and its technical and engineering staff work day and night in all the vital installations and facilities in the holy shrine in order to provide the best services to the respected visitors.
