Quran Recitation Session on Najaf-Karbala Road

The Quran Department of Iraqi Popular Forces organized a Quran recitation session on the road between the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala.

The session was held on Sunday at a Moukeb (resting place with special facilities and services for pilgrims) on the path of Arbaeen pilgrims.

A number of Qaris from Iraq, Iran and Pakistan as well as members of al-Ghadir International Tawasheeh (religious signing) group took part in the Quranic program.

It included recitations of verses from the Quran by Iranians Yusef Sadeqi and Mohammad Kermani and Iraqi Qari Ali al-Maryani.

There was also a speech by Iraqi cleric Sheikh Muhammad Najjar on the Ashura uprising of Imam Hussein (AS).

The program was held ahead of Arbaeen, which marks the 40th day after Ashura, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his faithful companions in the 680AD Battle of Karbala, which falls on November 20 this year.

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias march toward Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites. Many of them also visit Imam Ali’s (AS) holy shrine in Najaf.
