Forum Discusses Quran Recitation in Muharram Mourning Ceremonies in Iraq

A forum was held at Imam Ali (AS) holy shrine in Najaf, Iraq, to discuss recitation of the Quran and organizing Quranic programs during mourning ceremonies in the lunar month of Muharram.

According to the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine, representatives of Iraqi institutes and centers were present at the forum.

The participants underlined the need for organizing Quranic programs during the Muharram ceremonies.

Every year, Shia Muslims around the world hold rituals and ceremonies in Muharram to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.

The tenth day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar is set aside by the Muslim world to observe the day of Ashura and mourn the brutal killing of Imam Hussein (AS), grandson of the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH), and some of the Prophet’s family members by despotic Yazid, son of Mu’awiyyah, in the plain of Karbala, Iraq, in 680 AD.

This year, Muharram begins on Monday, October 3 and the day of Ashura falls on Wednesday, October 12.
