Iraq’s Kadhimiya Hosting Pilgrims on Anniversary of Imam Jawad (AS) Martyrdom

The city of Kadhimiya in North of Iraqi capital of Baghdad is hosting a large number of pilgrims on Friday, marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Jawad (AS), the 9th Shia Imam.

People from different parts of Iraq as well as other countries have flocked to the city, home to the holy shrines of Imam Musa Kazem (AS) and Imam Jawad (AS), to mourn the martyrdom of the ninth Imam.

There have been mourning rituals held in the city in the past few days, including a special program organized by the Astan (custodianship) of imam Jawad’s (AS) holy shrine.

Imam Jawad was martyred at the age of 25 in Kadhimiya in the year 220 After Hijra.

The Imam was poisoned by Mutasim, an Abbasid caliph.
