Iranian Calligraphers Successful at Kufa Festival

Two Iranian calligraphers won titles in a calligraphy festival held in Kufa, Iraq.


The festival and exhibition, titled al-Safeer, were attended by 90 calligraphers and artists from 23 countries, masjed-alkufa.com reported.

The artworks presented at the event were in Kufic, Thulth, Naskh and Nastaliq scripts.

Iranian calligrapher Reyhaneh Rahmati came second in Kufic style and her countryman Saber Safaei won the third title in the same style.

In Nastaliq, meanwhile, the top three winners were all Iranian. Seyed Mohammad Fattah, Safar Kashi and Hadi Panahi respectively came first to third in this category.

Seyyed Adeil Al-Yasiri, head of the Quran Section of Kufa Mosque, which hosted the festival, said that the Quran is not only a book for reading and memorizing, but its Divine teachings should be acted upon.

The 6th "Al-Safeer” cultural festival and the calligraphy exhibition were held on July 23 and 24.
